I have made compost with my class!

Today Room 7 made compost. We were divided into four groups. The two groups had banana peelings, the other groups went to collect some brown leaves outside, Miss Chao brought some freshly mowed grass from her place and some of our classmates also added in different coloured waste like old newspapers.

My group cut up the newspaper to small pieces some of us were tearing.

Then, we started tearing and cutting them up into small pieces so that the compost can decompose faster and so we can fit them all into our compost container which is just a small one. We put them into our compost container and added a small amount of water to give moisture to the compost.

Then, with a giant fork and a plastic trowel, we were each given a turn to mix the compost. We had fun doing it and we were amazed because after so much mixing, the compost actually smelt like a salad. Then we added some more water to it. I had lots of fun making compost with my class.

My favourite part was mixing the bowl because we were all very excited about taking part.

Learning Intention: We are learning to write a recount.
Success criteria: I know I can do this when I follow the structure of a recount: orientation, events, conclusion to write about Room 7 making compost.

Do you know how to play netball?

Today I played Netball with Room 7. The first skill that we learnt was dodging. Tina showed us what to do. We had to drive forward and turn our hips. Tina put some dots on the ground so that we could zigzag and dodge our way through to the other side. Then after that, we had a game and we practised our passing and our shooting. The game was so much fun. I had lots of fun playing Netball.

Learning Intention: We are learning write a recount.
Success criteria: I know I can do this when I describe the activities that we played in our Netball session.

Do you want to be a basketball player like me?

When I grow up I want to be a basketball player. A basketball player can help their teamates to win a game and they can
do dribbles across the court. They also need to be good at handling the ball to help his or her team. If they take the ball to the hoop, then they need to aim and shoot the ball into the hoop.

Learning Intention: We are learning to write a description.
Success criteria: I know I can do this when I describe a basketball player.

Yay! We learnt how to play Netball!

On Friday the 6th of May, we played our first session of netball. We played on the top court. Our coaches’ names were Tina and Mark. They taught us important Netball skills.

We warmed up first by jogging to the other side of the court and back. After that, we stretched by doing some lunges. A lunge is when we put our right leg or left leg out in front of the other leg and lean forward to stretch the muscles. After that, we went around in a circle and shared what we would like to be when we grow up. I told my class that I want to be a basketball player. Then Mark said that he wants to be a basketball player as well.

Then we paired up and my partner was Kevin. After that, we folded our arms and tried to knock our partners off balance by bumping them. If they fell, they had to land on both feet.

Then we had to get into a group and I teamed up with Kevin and Xavier. One of us was the runner and we took turns throwing the balls to the runner. The runner threw the ball to the person that was diagonal to them and then runs to the other side. The activities were easy to do so I had a lot of fun.

Finally we had our warm down by stretching our arms and legs. After that, Tina asked us if we had a class name. We didn't and one of us called out ‘Rock Solid’. It was hilarious because it was actually a nice name for our class.

After that, we went back to our room. I had lots of fun playing netball because we played Netball with each other. I was really happy because I learnt the chest pass.

Learning Intention: We are learning to write a recount.
Success criteria: I know I can do this when I follow the structure of a recount.
